Grant Frontier Park Playground and Interpretive Area

Parks and Recreation

Project Summary

As part of the River Vision Implementation Plan, Grant Frontier Park was an aging facility which the city prioritized for replacement.  The site included extensive regrading and revegetation, a side channel to the South Platte River, plaza, picnic facilities, playground and a historic gold panning site called “Montana City”.  Our landscape team provided a nature-themed playground and several play events constructed of on-site natural waste materials.  We were also responsible for providing an educational area with aspects of the Montana City history.

In collaboration with the city, Urban Drainage & Flood Control District, the Greenway Foundation, CDM Smith, THK and ECI, the project received a 2016 Grand Award for Engineering Excellence from the Colorado Association of Stormwater and Floodplain Managers.
